Reed & Barton 07952008 Perspective 65-Piece Flatware Set Review

This is a very nice flatware set that we purchased from another seller. We bought this set to replace an old Faberware set, which was made in Korea and was missing a few pieces. This set was made in China but is a significant upgrade from the old Faberware set.

The Reed and Barton Perspectives flatware has a very nice size, heft, feel and balance, which are qualities that you would look for in a good flatware set. The only pieces that I think may be a little off in the balance are the knives, they are a tad heavy in the handles, but it is not by much, and is only slightly noticeable if you look for that slight imbalance. On the flip side, the knives are very sturdy and don't bend when you smear really cold butter, or anything like that. They also seem to have some nice teeth which look like they can cut steak rather well (we actually have steak knives so I haven't tried this yet).

The pieces are very nicely finished in every regard. There is a mirror finish which holds up well after repeated dishwashing (more on that in a minute) and the edges are rounded. I mean the edges of the spoon and the forks, which on some other sets have a corner, because they are made out of flat pieces of metal, are rounded. This is a nice detail that separates a set like this from other sets.

With respect to the "spots," this is an interesting thing about this particular set. When we first washed this set in the dishwasher, we noticed water spots - not "rust" spots - but water spots on some of the pieces. Now, after repeated washings (we've had the set about a month), it seems as if they don't spot up nearly as much anymore. I don't know why this is the case, but it was certainly happening and now it has stopped. The mirror finish, which is really nice, has held up well after repeated washings and the set is very nice for an everyday set. It would be fine for a special occasion set as well (except for the fact that it is not made of actual silver and some people seem to like that in their special occasion sets) as it has a high quality heft, feel and balance to it. You may want to shop around because sometimes you can find a lower price on this set which would make it a particularly good deal.
