These are all really stunning dishes. I like to warm the large bowl in the oven and fill it with a bounty of fresh bagels for brunch on Sundays. Always a welcoming sight for guests as they arrive... The rest of the time we just have it out on the counter full of fruit.
I originally saw the Le Souk honey dishes on Neiman Marcus' site, but then found them here on Amazon for a much better price. My parents bought a full set of the Le Souk honey dishes around Thanksgiving to replace their everyday dishes and they couldn't be happier. Now I'm going to get a set for myself because they're just too beautiful.
There's a certain amount of variability because they are hand-painted, but I really think that just adds to their charm. We had checked with the company which imports the dishes, based out of Seattle, about the products used (e.g. paint, glaze) to make sure there's no lead or anything else; they were extremely helpful and sent a detailed account of everything we needed to know. Of course they're also dishwasher and microwave safe.
A number of the dishes did arrive broken, and a couple were of the wrong design, but we just let Amazon know, and the dishes were replaced almost instantaneously. Having had some experience ordering dishes and similar items online I know that they very often do get damaged in shipping, so this wasn't a surprise. The company rectified the situation immediately, so it was really fine.
Another thing we've liked about these dishes is that they retain heat quite impressively. It's not so much that food actually continues to cook in the dish (unless it's something veery delicate), but if you warm something up in the microwave it's going to stay warm longer. We also like to warm up dinner plates in the oven before meals sometimes, or just heat a serving platter with hot water before using it. It's a very nice quality we hadn't expected.
The last thing was that my mother was concerned that getting a whole dining set of these all in the honey design would be too 'busy' because she tends to like simpler things. But when they arrived she completely changed her mind. We've had compliments from everyone who has come to the house. We're very very happy with these dishes.
