I got this because I thought it would be a beautiful piece to use as well as display. Based on research of Iwachu Tetsubin I thought these were functional iron pots. While it is really a beautiful teapot it does not retain heat as well as I would expect from an iron pot, even when I preheat the pot by adding boiling water for 5 minutes. Also, I follow the directions exactly and only rinse the pot and pat dry but if you rub to hard with a dry cloth some of the paint comes off making me wonder if over time it will last. It does brew a good cup of tea because the filter is totally immersed in the water. Also, the Amazon price is pretty good considering most tea shops and outlets charge over $100 for these. I like it but not sure I will use it everyday.
