First, the product performed as advertised. The water quality is amazing. I have no complaints with performance.

There are a couple design issues which warrant comment, The pour spout is a poor design. If you don't mind splashing water on the counter every time you pour then this is the pitcher for you. And, the dispenser spout on the bottom is sloooowwww so go ahead and spill the water on the counter (if you can afford to waste it). Which brings me to my real issue with the product.

I live in Orange County, CA. The water here is only a marginally better than raw sewage. The EPA Maximum TDS (total dissolved solids) is 500ppm. The sludge from my faucet is 430 - 480 depending on the day. Therefore, I am only able to get 8 gallons +/- from one filter cartridge. That results in a per gallon cost of almost $2.00 which doesn't fit my economy. If you are fortunate enough to live somewhere where the water isn't as full of garbage as mine is then this may very well be an affordable alternative for you.

I promptly returned my Zero Water pitcher after the second filter cartridge and purchased and installed a reverse osmosis system. My initial cost was approximately $200. (feel free to spend more) That included the system and everything I needed to connect the filtered water to my refrigerator dispenser and icemaker. The installation was not complicated. (though I have the benefit of about 23 years plumbing/pipe trades experience) Anyone with a little mechanical inclination, a basic knowledge of plumbing and a few standard hand tools should be able to accomplish the feat.

I will have to replace my filters on a 6 month interval at a cost of about $45 and the membrane annually at a cost of about $60 for an average cost of about $12.50/month for water with a TDS rating of about 35 as opposed to a zero water cartridge at approx $15 every 4th day which would result in an approximate cost of $115/month. With these figures in mind, I don't think that the 35 ppm +/- of solids are that significant. I can't taste the difference.
