I have an older version of this jug...or rather I can say I had one because I dropped it and it shattered.

I went online to Amazon to buy the same brand again. Well, when it arrived, the cap is completely different. My old cap is a wonderful soft plastic that fits tightly. I could shake the contents to mix without any escaping, or even turn it completely upside down.

The new cap is a flimsy annoying hard plastic that doesn't fit tightly in the top. In the closed setting if you try to shake the jar liquid spurts out the top. If you turn it over it leaks out on the edges. This is terrible for two reasons. First, I make a lot of drinks (lemonade with crushed mint for example) which need to be shaken to remix each time before pouring. And second, if the container isn't airtight, it won't keep as well in the fridge and will absorb odors.

And to add insult to injury, while this plastic cap provides no useful seal it is also a PAIN to remove. So, how much worse can you get?

In any case, the good news is that my old soft plastic cap fits perfectly in the new pitcher. But since I also bought a smaller version of this (which also came with the hard annoying cap), I now have one good cap for two pitchers. When I use both, I skip the hard plastic cap and cover the top with tin foil. I see that Sur La Table has a similar-looking pitcher and I am going to go visit the store and see what the caps are like; I will repost if they have a better version than the one available here on Amazon.

Shame on you Arc/Luminarc for ruining a great product!

Edited to add that after a long hunt, I found a perfect replacement! Frigoverre Glass Beverage Pitcher / Jug with Hermetic Frosted Lid. 1.2 Liter This wonderful glass jar has a top that does seal completely, though you have to take the extra step of sealing it by turning the inner ring on the lid while holding the outer ring in place. I liked the old soft plastic cap on the Quadro better, but given that it no longer exists, I'm at least happy to find a well-made product that has a real airtight seal and can be turned upside down to shake.
