The toughest part about ordering online is when they just don't give you enough information. I took a chance on these and will tell you what I found.
Overall, these are pretty much what I was looking for in the size but I really wanted them in ceramic. At this price I decided to give these a try while I keep looking.
The outside has first, a wood grain look painted black and then it has this honeycomb look overall. So the design creates small flat areas that all connect.
The inside of the bowl is smooth and even though the photos make it look brighter, the inside color is that pretty russet red (not bright).
I don't know what they weigh but they are extremely light and yet sturdy enough to hold a ceramic spoon even while empty.
This is the size I was looking for. I wanted it to hold a cup of Miso or Wonton soup (as an appetizer) much like a restaurant. I'm pretty sure lacquer is not dishwasher safe and that's fine for me. I'll hand wash. Hope this helps someone.
Update: I ended up giving these to my daughter after I found the ones that I was really looking for in the first place. The only problem with the new ones is they are only sold in a 12 pack. I got them anyway (because they really were almost perfect). I will give some of them away along with a sushi set at Christmas. Here's the info if you want to check them out.
